School can be a bit nerve-racking because you will be meeting new people, each from different backgrounds and with different interests. It may be difficult to get the confidence to put yourself out there and introduce yourself to other people, but the sooner that you do the sooner you will find yourself a circle of friends.

Get Out There

It doesn’t matter if you are an introvert or an extrovert, going away to school and meeting new people can be exciting and may create a little bit of anxiety. Your school may put on events, especially during the beginning of the year including mixers, so that you can meet your fellow classmates. Even if you don’t think you will have a good time, you need to put yourself out there so you can meet your classmates and make new friends. Remember that these friendships can last a lifetime, with vacations, careers and possible romances in the future.

Join A Club

It doesn’t matter if your interest is volunteering, art, sports, dance or music, you will be able to find a group that meets your interests. You can also find academic groups that will give you people to study with, share notes, and learn from. These clubs will open the doors to meeting new friends and getting out and active. You can find out about groups on your school’s website and on groups that have been formed on social media sites like Facebook.

Try New Things

There are many events that take place on school campuses that are fun and inviting, including school fundraisers, competitions and celebrations. Class mixers are also a good opportunity to meet your teachers and teaching assistants as well. If you have never seen a Lacrosse game, but your school has a team, ask your room-mates to check it out. The more often that you put yourself out there and try new things, the more likely you are to find something you enjoy doing with great people.

Key Points

The main thing to remember when you are away at school is you get what you put out. If you don’t reach out and introduce yourself to people, you may have trouble meeting them. That is why you should get involved in many different facets of school life so that you can have a full social life as well. Getting out there allows you to meet new friends and create memories that can last a lifetime.
